Love

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.  Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
John 15:12-13

I am totally blown away by this scripture this Advent season. It is the verse I have, over the last few days, consistently come back to when reading about love in preparation for writing this blog.

My heart is humbled by God’s love for me.
My mind is in awe and wonder, for the potential I have, if I live a life of love.

I have been left asking myself, is this the kind of love that I carry?
Am I obedient to this commandment?
Would I truly lay down MY life for anything, let alone my friends, or indeed for anybody!?

As a Mum, I would do anything for my kids; I would die for them, because my love for them is full of wonder and is inexplicable.
I would probably take a bullet for Rich (my husband). I might even step in for a few other people in my life, but that would be a momentary or split-second decision when faced with a circumstance where a heroic action is needed. But would I do this knowingly?

Here God allows us love on a completely different level. He sent his son to experience the same things that we experience day to day, knowing that he would one day die for us.

Jesus came, with full knowledge that he would one day, give his life for us.

The Holy Spirit is here to remind us daily of this love.

Today, as we think about the Christmas season, surrounded by our family and friends, reflect on no greater love and allow the Holy Spirit to fill you with His unconditional love.
