Living in Fear

Suddenly, as if from nowhere, we find ourselves in the middle of a major crisis.  The COVID-19 virus, a new global pandemic, has shocked us all.

The impact it is making is changing daily as more and more people become infected and the death rate increases.  We are certainly facing dark times.

But the one thing I do know and will stand firm on is that Jesus makes the darkness tremble.

In all the stress and the anxiety, He is in control. In all the worry about the catastrophic and deadly effects of this virus, Jesus is in control.  Singlehandedly, we cannot change what is happening in the world, but we can be comforted by knowing that God is with us.

It’s quite a strange thing to say when so many people are being impacted in a bad way, but the Bible does say that we shouldn’t fear because God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Isaiah 41:10 says: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

I love the song by Mosaic MSC, called ‘Tremble’.
When you listen to the lyrics, you will see that they are certainly relevant to where we find ourselves today.

Peace, bringing it all to peace
The storm surrounding me
Let it break at Your name

Still, call the sea to still
The rage in me to still
Every wave at Your name

Jesus, Jesus, You make the darkness tremble
Jesus, Jesus, You silence fear

It goes on to say that the name of Jesus is a light that the shadows can’t deny. His name cannot be overcome.

In the middle of all the darkness, the uncertainty and the cause of so much anxiety and angst, we need to stand firm on the promises in the Bible. Throughout the Bible, we are told:

Do not fear, for I am with you… (Isaiah 41:10)

Do not be anxious about anything… (Philippians 4:6)

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul… (Psalm 94:19)

The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?... (Psalm 27:1)

The theme that permeates throughout is that we don’t have to fear when we choose Christ as our saviour. I want to encourage you to take a few moments out to meditate on the fact that He is our God, and  He is there for us during troubled times as well as good times.  Why not do this while listening to our latest worship session? Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel.

The playlist starts with the song mentioned above, ‘Tremble’,  and it finishes with the song ‘Stand In Your Love’, which declares that our fear doesn’t stand a chance when we stand in His love..

As Christians, we are in a better position than most, because of our hope in Christ.
